I’m Dr Clare Lesley Hughes, a Spiritual Ecologist and Wortcunner based in North Yorkshire. Welcome to Herbal Hegemone, a holistic platform for plant-based remedies, complementary care, ecospiritual practice and reflective research.

 

I handcraft a range of remedies and ritual tools, including herbal and aromatherapy blends, incense, amulets, and tarot readings, drawing on both traditional knowledge and contemporary scholarship. I also run ecospiritual mindfulness sessions designed to help individuals reconnect with nature and the more-than-human world and share my research via my blog.  Alongside my work in spiritual and botanical care, I also offer a trusted and fully insured local service for companion animal wellbeing, particularly tailored for feline familiars. 

 

My first PhD was in Biology at the University of York, and I am currently undertaking a second PhD in Humanities, Religion and Philosophy at York St John University. This second PhD is exploring the Enchanted and Marginalised Worlds of British Wortcunners. In addition to my academic qualifications, I also hold diplomas in Advanced Aromatherapy, Master Herbalist, Spiritual Life Coaching, Holistic Health, Mindfulness and Magical Herbalism. I’m a member of the Complementary Medical Association, the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine, the British Sociological Society, the Royal Institute of Philosophy, and the International Network for the Study of Spirituality.
