I’m Dr Clare Lesley Hughes, a Spiritual Ecologist and Wortcunner based in North Yorkshire. Welcome to Herbal Hegemone, a holistic platform for plant-based complementary therapies, ecospiritual practices and reflective research.

 

I offer a range of products and services, including herbal teas, aromatherapy blends, incense, amulets and pendants, as well as tarot mindfulness sessions, drawing on both traditional knowledge and contemporary scholarship. I also lead a range of workshops and group sessions aimed at reconnecting people with plants and the more-than-human world, and also share my research through my blog.  

 

My first PhD was in Biology at the University of York, and I am currently pursuing a second PhD in Humanities, Religion and Philosophy at York St John University. This second PhD is exploring the Enchanted and Marginalised Worlds of Contemporary Wortcunners in Britain. In addition to my academic qualifications, I also hold diplomas in Advanced Aromatherapy, Master Herbalist, Spiritual Life Coaching, Holistic Health, Mindfulness and Magical Herbalism. I’m a member of the Complementary Medical Association, the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine, the British Sociological Association, the Royal Institute of Philosophy, and the International Network for the Study of Spirituality.
