Welcome to Herbal Hegemone - a space for plant-based remedies, complementary wellbeing, spiritual practice and reflective research.

 

I’m Dr Clare Lesley Hughes, a Hedgewitch based in North Yorkshire. Herbal Hegemone is both a complementary wellbeing business and a personal project rooted in the living traditions of natural magic. 

 

I handcraft a range of remedies and ritual tools, including herbal and aromatherapy blends, incense, amulets, and tarot readings, drawing on both traditional knowledge and contemporary scholarship. Alongside my work in spiritual and botanical care, I offer a trusted and fully insured local service for companion animal wellbeing, particularly tailored for feline familiars. 

 

My first PhD was in Biology at the University of York, and I am currently undertaking a second PhD in Humanities, Religion and Philosophy at York St John University. This second PhD is exploring the intersections of herbalism, plant magic and posthuman thought in contemporary British wortcunners. In addition to my academic qualifications, I also hold diplomas in Advanced Aromatherapy, Master Herbalist, Spiritual Life Coaching, and Magical Herbalism. I’m a member of the Complementary Medical Association, the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine, the British Sociological Society, and the International Network for the Study of Spirituality.
